Entre vinhas: análise crítica do discurso de notícias sobre trabalho análogo à escravidão na colheita da uva no Rio Grande do Sul

Abstract

Em fevereiro de 2023, foi deflagrada uma operação que resgatou 207 pessoas do trabalho análogo à escravidão na colheita e transporte da uva em Bento Gonçalves, no Rio Grande do Sul. O caso ganhou destaque pelo número de vítimas e também por conta dos relatos das violências a que eram submetidas e por envolver as maiores vinícolas do estado: Aurora, Salton e Garibaldi. A ocorrência teve bastante cobertura da mídia e gerou comoção nas redes sociais, sendo bastante compartilhada e comentada na internet. Este trabalho é uma análise de duas notícias a respeito desse caso, de dois portais de notícia gratuitos e de grande circulação e credibilidade, G1-RS e Band News. Os objetivos específicos foram investigar a relação do uso da linguagem para a construção dos discursos e as movimentações sociais-ideológicas de poder que movimentam. Para tanto, as notícias escolhidas são de meio virtual, visto que nos dias de hoje a circulação de notícias está na palma de nossas mãos, em uma intrínseca conexão com nossa vida social. A lente de análise utilizada é a da Análise Crítica do Discurso, uma área que examina como o uso da linguagem influencia e reflete poder, ideologias e relações sociais, desvendando como o discurso molda e é moldado pela sociedade. Como se trata de um campo de estudo amplo e composto por várias vertentes, esclarece-se que as usadas aqui são as de Van Leeuwen (2008) e Fairclough (2003). Para enriquecer a tessitura de reflexões teóricas, também se utilizou o aporte de Gnerre (1991) e Bakhtin (2006). A pesquisa se ocupou, portanto, de analisar a atribuição de papeis sociais nos textos das notícias, olhando para o processo de recontextualização dos fatos. Como resultados, verificou-se que os interesses econômicos e políticos possuem um papel central nas decisões por trás da construção de um texto jornalístico e na circulação de informação. O texto do Portal G1-RS, focado em notícias do estado do RS, é propositalmente raso, visto que não é de interesse do grupo afetar a reputação dessas três empresas. Essa notícia, então, tem construções lexicais e discursivas que não são enfáticas e que buscam uma certa neutralidade e não comprometimento. O texto do Portal Band News apresenta de forma mais sucinta e enfática o que aconteceu e não foge de escolhas lexicais e discursivas mais severas. De qualquer forma, a falta de ênfase e abordagem crítica nos textos das matérias contribui para minimizar o destaque a crimes desse tipo. A Análise Crítica do Discurso se mostrou uma ferramenta teórico-metodológica bastante versátil e poderosa para a investigação de vieses ideológicos em diferentes discursos, evidenciando as movimentações de poder inerentes à língua. Conclui-se que que análises deste tipo se beneficiam da multidisciplinaridade, de modo que seu uso pode fortalecer pesquisas dos mais diversos campos do conhecimento e também ser beneficiada por eles.

In February 2023, an operation was launched that rescued 207 people from conditions analogous to slavery in the harvesting and transportation of grapes in Bento Gonçalves, Rio Grande do Sul. The case gained prominence due to the high number of victims and the reports of the violence they were subjected to, as well asits involvement with the largest wineries in the state: Aurora, Salton, and Garibaldi. The incident received extensive media coverage and sparked a lot of comotion and comments on social media, being widely shared and commented on the internet. This work is an analysis of two news articles regarding this case, from two widely circulated and renowned free news portals, G1-RS and Band News. The specific objectives were to investigate the relationship between the use of language in constructing discourses and the social-ideological power dynamics at play. Therefore, the chosen news articles are from virtual media, considering that nowadays the circulation of news is at the palm of our hands, in an intrinsic connection with our social life. The analysis lens employed is that of Critical Discourse Analysis, a field that examines how language usage influences and reflects power, ideologies, and social relationships, uncovering how discourse shapes and is shaped by society. As a broad field of study composed of various perspectives, it must be clarified that the ones used here are those of Van Leeuwen (2008) and Fairclough (2003). To enrich the fabric of theoretical reflections, the contributions of Gnerre (1991) and Bakhtin (2006) were also used. The research, therefore, focused on analyzing the attribution of social roles in news texts, examining the process of recontextualization of facts. As a result, it was found that economic and political interests play a central role in the decisions behind the construction of a journalistic text and in the circulation of information. The text from the G1-RS portal, focused on news from the state of RS, is intentionally superficial, as it is not in the interest of the group to affect the reputation of these three companies. Thus, this news has lexical and discursive constructions that are not emphatic, seeking a certain neutrality and non-commitment. The text from the Band News portal presents more concise and emphatic constructions of what happened, not shying away from more severe lexical and discursive choices. Nevertheless, the lack of emphasis and critical approach in news articles contributes to downplaying the severity of crimes of this nature. Critical Discourse Analysis has proven to be a highly versatile and powerful theoretical-methodological tool for investigating ideological biases in different discourses, revealing the power dynamics inherent in language. It is concluded that analyses of this kind benefit from multidisciplinarity, such that their use can strengthen research in various fields of knowledge and can also be enriched by them.
